Adept is a catch-all term used by Astral Theory adherents to refer to any individual capable of manipulating Astral Energy. Adepts are often divided into two broad categories, Espers and Magi.
Esper[]
In Astral Theory terminology, an Esper is an individual who poseses inherent Astral Manipulation abilities, the most widely known example being Force-sensitives. Espers are typically able to activate at least a portion of their abilities through willpower alone, without necesssarily needing to understand the mechanics behind their powers.
Mage[]
Magi are individuals who have learned any of a variety of Astral Manipulation techniques not necessarily dependant upon an inherent ability. Such techniques are often activated through a ritual or incantation, and typically require a comprehensive understanding of the mechanics of Astral Energy. Although any sentient can theoretically learn such techniques, sufficient energy must still be provided; thus individuals with a greater Astral Potential will typically be more effective Magi.
